Last Weekend
Well, we played two awesome shows last weekend, and had a fine time in the process. For the uninitiated, we were at Cafe Brasil in Houston on Friday night. This was the Funk Jazz Friday normally hosted by our pals in Drop Trio, and we were filling in for a Friday with some instrumental madness. For the occasion, we brought in one of Jason's good friends, Patrick, on trumpet to play with us. This guy is a total bad ass as we observed (and were told by most members of the audience). I feel like I can safely predict many future sit-ins with PLUMP in the future. The music and crowd were great. The down side is that some homeless dude (apparently in bitterness from not receiving any money while he was panhandling) slashed one of Andrew's tires (as well as about 2 other patron's tires). If you ask me, that's no way for the homeless to act. They should really be more jolly and should offer to wipe my windows with some sort of filthy rag, not tire slashing--that's no way to earn a buck or two.
Saturday we rolled down to Bryan, TX to Revolution for the One-Year Anniverasry. What a bad ass party. Our pals Sugar Free All-Stars were there and they played real well. We had Chris from Sugar Free play organ with us throughout our 2 hour set. That was probably the coolest show we have played there in a long time--I think we had the throngs up and dancing the entire show. The highlights was definitely this jam we played while in Sweet Leaf--that was unexpected and bad ass. Also, we finally re-configured the song Harry Carrey, and debuted the new version both Friday and Saturday night. That song really jams now.
Sorry, I forgot to bring the set lists from both shows, but I will post them tomorrow.
FYI: in the car to and from Bryan this is what we had: a cd Jason taped containing PLUMP jams from a practice about 2 weeks ago. Then, we had the Best of the JB's (Al choice). On the way back, we had the most recent Peter Gabriel album--I think it was "UP" (Andrew's choice), then a funky Beck album "Midnight Vultures" (Jason's choice).
